You just made me realize that I’m doing this with um, three of my characters. They can all see into each other’s hearts. You would think this would make life easier but no … there’s expectations and assumptions and denial ahoy…
This trope is all over my work, as well. I wrote one novel wherein two boys (estranged best friends with an uncomfortable truth between them) get stuck in an elevator, and the novel I hope to write this year involves two frenemies getting stranded in an apocalypse-proof roadside diner after a climate disaster.
Very well thought out, Meg. So many things here I had never considered in the little romances I write. I am keeping your ending questions handy for the next story! Thank you.
I like the idea of using tropes as character exercises. Even if that trope doesn't make it's way into the story, it can help reveal some of the finer details of who our "people" are inside.
Your questions at the end actually helped me with something I’m currently working on, so thanks for that!
Also…Planes, Trains, & Automobiles came to my mind as I was reading this.
Excellent!
At this point, I'm having a hard time thinking of a movie/TV show that DOESN'T deploy this trope. 😂 But, yes, P,T, & A is an excellent example.
This was wonderful!
Thanks, Liz! 🥂
Do let me know if you have a favorite (or least favorite) trope you'd like to see covered in a future tasting. 😊

Pssst. “When the Phone Rings”. Best opening episode in a KDrama EVAR, plus forced proximity aplenty. I mean, it’s research, right? Right?

You're welcome, Sharron!
