I love K-Dramas. They truly know the slow burn trope that I love. After watching so many (my cousins and I have a chat and all we watch in a spreadsheet to keep track) I have come to expect the same things: umbrella, slow motion walk, kiss shot from 6 angles, falling girl, the ML and FL had an encounter in their past... Love it. I love True Beauty. It's a classic!
I love that you and your cousins can bond over the genre. So fun. 😊
And don't forget "gazing longingly into each other's eyes" for minutes at a time. I wanted to scream, "Just KISS already!" about a million times while watching this. 😂
My bestie works in haptics and I was testing one of her devices. It's synced to CLOY and it was cool. It vibrated when they ran to each other, with each step they took toward each other. Romance is getting upgraded!
"This story puts the human condition through every conceivable wringer. While the plot circumstances can be a touch melodramatic..." I've never watched any k-drama, but it sounds similar in style to soap-opera series coming from India. SO unpredictable! You never know what weird stuff is happening next -- such odd juxtaposition of tragic and comic. Nothing like the Hallmark formula ( which I despise) "Girl living in the big city has the wrong boyfriend, goes back home to small town, meets up with former small town boyfriend, kisses ONCE. The End. (My 95-year-old mother used to love those, because she could follow the formula - she'd yell at me out in the kitchen, "Better get in here! Hallmark kiss is coming!". I might like k-soaps, I mean, if they kiss more better.
Yeah ... they still didn't kiss enough. 😂 But everyone was so dang beautiful, it didn't matter.
Hallmark romances might be my genre nemesis. (Unless it's werewolf erotica) Which means I'll probably have to face one (or both) of them here at some point. For everyone's educational benefit, of course. 😊
The kiss doesn’t come until episode 8, usually. Although there have been some accidental kisses (seriously, the amount of time one of them accidentally falls on top of the other) and my husband and I go “oooooh, they kissed early”.
Meg, if you want skin, “Queen Woo” (but it’s not on my recommendation list because it just Stops with no resolution, like the production company ran out of money suddenly and it’s super weird Games of Thrones level skin with a bit of Return of the Jedi bizarreness —I can describe the absolute weirdest scene to spare you, you just let me know) …. But the Hottest Kiss in all of KDrama is in “King the Land”. I don’t even remember the premise (super-cute rich hotel family, super-poor hotel concierge! There, I remembered it). But not only are the couple adorable together, there is this intensely hot kiss that is just … 👩🍳💋I had to rewatch it again the next day.
The B couple in CLOY broke my heart too. They could have had a whole drama to themselves and then met in the alps later. Fun fact, the leads in CLOY got married a few years after they filmed this.
I actually found all the "hugging" they did quite satisfying. Hugging, like hand holding, neck nuzzling, lower back caressing, and ear nibbling, are all vastly underrated expressions of affection. It really was refreshing to watch THAT much romance with so little heat. All things in moderation, right?
Everyone was wonderful. Even the characters you're supposed to hate are wonderfully hate-able. The biggest challenge in the beginning is keeping track of all the characters, who belongs to who, who's on who's side, etc., but they all feel like old friends/enemies by the end. 😊
Not romance related: some of the best films and TV series are being made in South Korea! I've been a devotee for many years.
The latest huge romance hit is 'When the Phone Rings'. Like all SK romances, this one has a bit of everything, highly inventive, nothing at all like the predictability and simplicity of western TV and films.
Have you experienced KDRAMA first hand? I want titles! And takes! - I haven't but, but my sister got sucked in like you did. LOL. "Boys Over Flowers" on Netflix. She said it's a long one. LOL I could never get into those because the "love" scenes (if you can even call them that) are so damn chaste! And there's no passion in the kissing! I need to see some heat, some lust, hell, even CHEMISTRY between the two actors. Most times they act like they're kissing their brother or sister. I've seen passionate close-mouthed kissing (Hallmark movies), but I don't even see that in KDrama shows.
Is being able to “cry at sad things” (empathy) the best determination for whether someone is human vs. LMD? If not, what is? - I think it depends on who we're talking about--men vs women. SPOILER ALERT: I used to be a fan of the show "The Walking Dead." When Glenn was killed (in the most brutal way possible--and it wasn't via a zombie), I bawled. I ugly cried like I had lost a family member for a good 10 mins. I had my hands over my eyes and my ears at the same time (you'll know what I mean if you've seen the show) and Mr. Ex shoved a towel under my arm. That was his form of empathy. LOL I think his reaction to that same scene was like, "Jesus Christ!" I think if men are in touch with their feminine side, they "cry at sad things" (empathy). But from the IG reels I've seen, men tend to cry for "happy overwhelm" reasons. I love watching videos like that.
Also, I love that ugly-cry meme of Zoey LOL "New Girl" was one of my fav shows. I really miss it.
Really? I'll have to ask my sister if she's watched that one. I like the bollywood movies. Whether it's romance or action, they always manage to have a dance segment. LOL

Haptics??? This is the part where I show how "behind the times" I am. 😉That's the coolest thing I've ever heard.
You should chase this with "Snowpiercer." It's a real heart-warmer.
I know heckling me makes you happy.
And I LOVE that for you. 😏

I'll bookmark the hotel one for sure. 😍
Sounds worth watching. Are the characters beautiful?( I’m spoiled)🙂

"When the Phone Rings" has crossed my recommendations desk a few times now. Must add it to my watch list!! 💕💕
Definitely do! It went a bit off the rails toward the end but the first episode was outstanding!

"King the Land". When they kiss, it's the hottest thing I've seen in KDrama and I've watched a ton.
