I don't ever remember kissing in a driveway! I mean, yes, it seems like the classic place. My first kiss was pre-driving. My first long-term girlfriend wasn't allowed to date me, so I never picked her up or dropped her off at home. My second long-term girlfriend -- and now my wife -- lived in student housing at university, which didn't have a driveway.

But yeah, driveways were important in many ways. Driveways were airports for teenagers: you stood in the driveway waiting for your buddy or significant other to pick you up and whisk you away, and vice versa.

Wasn't ALLOWED to date you? Were you a hoodlum, Graham? 👀

We had a prominent (very long, paved) driveway growing up. My parents still live in that house so it's seen plenty of action over the decades. 😂

Ha! Not quite.

No, it was a combination of not being Italian enough, Catholic enough, and probably some other things, too.

This brought up oodles of memories and a big smile.

Never on a driveway for me. Nor on a front porch. My first kiss was with a boy a year younger than me— he knew too much because when he shoved his tongue down my throat I had no idea why and found it repulsive. I was 12!

Ack! I'd file that under "epic disaster" kisses. 🥰

At twelve I'd only given or received a peck in a very PG game of spin-the-bottle. I had a messy one with a pseudo boyfriend in 9th grade. It was wetter than I would have liked. And unpleasant enough that I avoided doing it again until we ultimate broke up because of ... creative differences.

Poor, sweet adolescent boys. Who is teaching them to kiss??? Their Golden retrievers?????

Luckily, practice makes perfect. 💕💕💕

And also, women never hang onto these awkward memories for decades, so it's like slobber under the bridge. 😜

My first one was in a friend’s backyard.

I don’t write romance but really enjoy your posts about process. Thanks!

Thank you!

There's so much about the Romance "genre" that I truly can't stand, which is why I'm always looking for the universal elements of it that can build bridges and keep people on all points of the "love it to hate it" spectrum entertained. 🥂😊

Some moments are impressionable. This one certainly was!

A Moment To Remember

Prompt by: The Romantic : Driveway Moments

It was a hot summer night. The moon had yet to rise. There were stars twinkling overhead that were in competition with the fireflies. They both lit up the night sky darkened by the isolation of the island. The stars and fireflies energies could not compete with the heat being given off as the latest summer couple walked towards her house. Electric sparks from a strong connection were evident. The walk slowed until it halted completely. Both turned to face each other. Faces moved forward tentatively, lips parted. The pent up energy exploded as hungry lips captured the moment. It has been said that a certain taste is shared when two compatible people kiss. It was certainly true that night as the chemical reaction of their united salivas intensified the kiss. Both stepped back and reveled in one of those “wow” moments.

It certainly was a moment to remember.

I honestly don’t remember my first kiss (I guess it wasn’t that good, lol). The one I do remember, however, was not really because of the kiss itself, but rather the setting.

I am a hopeless romantic, probably to a fault. But, because of this, I was a sucker for romantic situations. Not cheesy but heartfelt. This kiss took place in my backyard. But that isn’t the part I went swooning over. It was raining. Not hard, a very soft and subtle rain. I don’t know, something about it was just so beautiful.

Lovely memory, MaKenna. Thank you for sharing. 🥰

It's no wonder SO many romantic scenes in film take place in the rain ... or snow ...

Weather is a powerful conductor of electricity. 💕💕⚡⚡

Great post, meg. So many memories. I have to say that I was smitten by romance early. And at the same time, I was a very young looking person for whatever age I was. This made it hard for me to procure my first “real” kiss as quickly as I might have liked. In elementary school, though, a boy my age caught me in a game of kissing tag (wildly inappropriate when you think about it). Was that my first kiss? 🤣

Oh, as for place of the first real kiss. It was a friend.’s basement. I think I was 14.

I was early to embrace romantical thinking, as well. I seem to remember my mom helping me write a "love" letter to a boy in 2nd grade. Sheesh!

My kissing days were late to bloom, partly because I was a bit of a clown which meant I could hang around the boys I liked but didn't present myself as a viable romantic option because I was "funny." I also had wildly high standards and wasn't about to give my kisses away to just anybody. 😜

I don't remember my first kiss, which probably means it wasn't all that great. LOL. I love movies where the kiss is passionate and this is going to sound crazy, BUT, back in the day, I was a huge fan of actor Christopher Atkins (as in that dude from "The Blue Lagoon" movie). He did an EXTREMELY corny movie with actress Kristy McNichol called "The Pirate Movie" and their first kiss was on a beach. With tongue! LOL It's what I consider a REAL. GOOD. KISS. I lurved it. To me, that's when you know it's a real good kiss: when you (clearly) see tongues. LOL

Another one I liked was the movie "Teen Witch." Lordty, the MMC was an actor named Dan Gauthier--someone who was major eye candy on a show called "China Beach"--who ends up falling for the teen witch (Robin Lively, the sister of Blake Lively). Their first kiss was in an abandoned house, on a mattress I don't want to think about where it'd been (Ew!), and it was a tongue kiss. I can't tell you how many times I replayed that scene once it came out on video. LOL I would've been like, "A tongue kiss with this dude had better be in my contract." LOL.

The BEST close-mouthed kiss I've seen was between Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour in "Somewhere in Time." In a house, I think? But it was... wow. Just. Wow. The way he held fer face was SO tender and the kiss was SO fervent. If you can find the clip, you'll see what I mean.

Right?! LOL. I just watched the clip again (thanks for sharing!) and Yowza! What's happening is that your being kissed by Christopher Reeve, Jane! BWAHA. Guaranteed every woman on set swooned and their ovaries exploded. Lordty, that man was beautiful. I guess it wasn't really close-mouthed, but there was no tongue action, and it was still so BEAUTIFUL and passionate. Like, he's so tall and muscular and I can't imagine being held in arms like that...

😂😂😂

His lips are muscular, too. Hence why tongue was not necessary to induce ovary explosion. 😜
